Weekly Update - June 20, 2012 - Spiritual Blindness

Written by Carleta

Praise

Thank God for helping a Believer who those in the PTAP network has prayed for many times. Though this man and his family still live on the edge of poverty, their needs are being met and they continue to grow in the Faith.

Prayer

The Crown Prince Nayef of Saudi died on Saturday 16th of June. Pray for the Royal family - for comfort as they mourn, and pray for wisdom and God's guidance for the next Crown Prince.

Please keep praying for my neighbour's daughter "Fatima" who has now listened to a Worship CD (pure scripture), which she said she loves, and has admitted that she does not know if she will go to heaven when she dies.  She does keep giving me literature promoting Islam, however, so prayer is needed that the scales will be removed from her eyes, and that of her whole family

It is often hard in our part of the world for single believers, who once were Muslims, to find wives or husbands who believe in Jesus as well.  Pray God will bring appropriate spouses for these new believers, and establish believing households from their bonds.

There is a growing lack of motivation for children/youth to study, since there is hardly any hope for a job.  This could cause them to drop out of school and hang around on streets, causing trouble or even become extremists.  Pray that God will show them the hope we have in Him which gives us purpose in life.

Testimony

Pray for “Fatima” who works with James.  One day she said to him, “I heard that you are a religious man. Do you have a New Testament?” James told her that his wife had one that she could give to her. “Fatima” went home to discuss this matter with her family and they proceeded to invite James and his wife over.  They accepted the whole Book that James had and listened as he explained how the Father put His Word together. They also read some passages from the life of Jesus. Though quite set in their beliefs they are open to more conversations. Ask the Father to remove spiritual blindness and pour out his Spirit on this family.

Weekly Update - June 13, 2012 - Seek Out the Truth

Written by Carleta

Praise

Thank God that there are more people coming for follow up through Christian Media. Pray also that in our personal lives we will be able to meet people who are open for the Good News.

Video

Many Arabian countries are facing political struggles. Overall United Arab Emirates has not really been affected. Please watch this video and pray for the Government of UAE.

Prayer

Pray for new local believers to truly value fellowship with others.

A worker shared how one of her students has been trying hard to convert her; yet each time they have a conversation he always admits that he doesn't know if he'll go to heaven or hell on the last day. Pray that many workers will meet locals who are willing to engage them in spiritual discussions. Pray that the thought of their eternal uncertainty will drive many them to begin to ask deeper questions.

Continue to pray for the leaders of the countries in the AP. Ask that God will give them wisdom and courage to rule with integrity, seeking the good of the people, not for personal gain or power.

Testimony

“Fawaz”, a young man, listened to the testimony of his teacher, who had asked about his relationship to God.  The teacher asked, “If your mother came to talk about your grades, and I got angry and punched her in the nose, but later acted very nice and gave you a higher grade, would that take away the offense?"  The student answered in the negative. “Then why do we think we can take away our sins before God by doing good deeds?” The teacher continued to give illustrations and Scripture to make the payment of Christ for us clear.

"Fawaz" had heard from others that Jesus died for our sins.  He said it was no problem and that he was open minded, but warned his teacher to be careful with whom he shared this, as there were many conservative Muslim families represented at the school. Nevertheless, when the teacher stressed how crucial this message was, sharing Jesus’ statement that no one comes to the Father but through Him, "Fawaz" stated with resolve that he would look into this belief further.  Pray for "Fawaz" that he will seek out the truth about Jesus, and be saved.

Pray for deliverance for those experiencing demonic possession or attack. Pray also that this deliverance would be joined by a realization and acceptance of Jesus Christ.

Several new workers have come into our country, but some are having complications getting their visas. Pray that they will get work papers quickly. Pray also that God will keep sending long-term workers.

When a friend of theirs was murdered, people demonstrated in the streets, protesting the senseless death. They continue to grieve, angry that a man who they loved and respected was killed. Please pray for these young people. Ask that they will go to the Lord with their thoughts and that He will give them comfort.

Weekly Update - May 30, 2012 - Unity and Grace

Written by Carleta

Prayer

In an age of growing secularism, many believers no longer expect God to break forth into people's lives and perform miracles. This region needs God's manifest intervention to bring about change; and we need to specifically ask God for this. Many locals are hurting from physical, emotional and financial trials. May we be the vessels that God will use to bring a 'miracle of transformation' to those around us.

Many new university projects are being launched around the country.  Pray this would create many new opportunities for believers and non-believers to interact, and also challenge people to question and search for truth as they pursue higher education.

On Monday, while soldiers were preparing for a parade, a suicide bomber killed himself and many others. Hundreds were also wounded. Ask that God will bring healing to those who are recovering from this atrocity and comfort to the families who lost loved ones.

Unity among Believers is a powerful witness to those who watch them. Pray that those who love Jesus in the AP will have unity and grace in interpersonal relationships.

Pray for local students from this country going abroad to study, that God will guide them to the right university and that they will meet committed Christians who are willing to befriend and share Jesus with them.

Video

Like young ladies and women around the world, the women of the Arabian Peninsula love to look good and dress in high fashion. From the outside it looks like they are all dressed in black, but there is a growing desire to look good and be thin. Please view Eating Disorders in the Arabian Peninsula, and pray for these women.

Weekly Update - May 23, 2012 - Sound Discipleship

Written by Carleta

Praise

Praise God for Believers who meet together for worship and fellowship. Pray that they will mature in Faith, growing in numbers as well.

Prayer

Although this country has a group culture, locals are becoming more individualized in the sense that even when physically gathering, people are often browsing internet, chatting or texting individually on their I-phone or Blackberry. Pray that people will browse Christian websites and realize that what they have been taught from childhood is not correct.  Pray that they will be drawn to the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Pray for "Ahmed", who travels to several cities, encouraging Believers and sharing Truth with them. Ask that he will share with them the wise teaching that he and his mentor found in the Word.

Pray that established relationships with local friends would be encouraged, flourish and deepen.  Pray that the enemy does not put stumbling blocks in the way of these relationships, that there would be more opportunities of sharing and growing together.

Please join on 26 May with workers praying in-country on this day for the Gospel to reach the local people within the country and the region. Pray that Arabs seeking the Truth will be drawn to those who know and love Jesus.  Please pray for fruit from relationships established between workers and locals.

Testimony

“Tayma” is a new, local believer from a Muslim background, who has begun to meet with some expatriate believers.  It is very easy in such situations to be the prime focus of attention, which can sometimes distract her from learning to be a servant to Christ and others. Please pray that Tayma will receive balanced and sound discipleship leading to true Christ likeness.

Weekly Update - May 16, 2012 - Desire to Study

Written by Carleta

Video

Spiritual encounters in the Arabian Peninsula run under the surface of Islam. Most families would understand that spiritual powers are working all around them; it is part of life. Please view this video, Power Encounters, and seek His Kingdom over the AP.

Prayer

Please pray for those who read Words of Truth on internet sites and see clips on You Tube about the Son. Ask that they will share their thoughts with friends and that groups of those who seek, will come to Faith.

There is a growing need for Arabic speakers willing to connect with new believers.  Pray that God will send them.

The hum of generators has become a common occurrence as electrical outages have increased. Tribesmen in the country-side frequently cut the lines from the power plants to the cities. Those who cannot afford generators are the most affected. Ask that the tribesmen will think of the needs of their fellow countrymen and dialogue with those who they seek to hurt.

Testimony

A young lady reads the Word of God in her home. She also studies it, writing down her thoughts, about what God is teaching her. She is learning much through doing this. Please pray that others in her family will desire to study with her. Ask that they will believe the words of Truth and that this family will worship together.

Weekly Update - May 9, 2012 - Supply All Their Needs

Written by Carleta

Praise

Thank God for rain that causes crops to grow. Pray that this year, the crops will be plentiful and that vegetables and fruit will reach those who are hungry. Pray for groups who are helping those who cannot afford food. Ask that they will be successful and that the needs of the hungry will be met. Ask that those who seek the Truth will also be “fed”.

Video

Spiritual encounters in the Arabian Peninsula run under the surface of Islam. Most families would understand that spiritual powers are working all around them, it is part of life. Please view this video, Power Encounters, and seek His Kingdom over the AP.

Prayer

A recent fire and flash flooding in our country have caused several to be injured and killed. Pray for families and those touched by the events to be moved to find His Truth. May God's children show hope to them in the person of Jesus.

Pray for local believers, the few that there are in our country. One brother in particular, is in a very difficult situation with his family. Pray for protection and wisdom as he deals with issues at home.

The Word of God is powerful, a way which God speaks to his people. Ask that the Word will be spread across the Peninsula. Ask that people will desire to read the Word and find copies to read.  Ask that many Books will be given out or bought in stores where they are available.

Someone had a dream that the leader of our country came to faith and a large number of locals also crossed-over. Pray that this will become a reality indeed. Pray that strategic leaders will encounter Him to share words of Truth.

Please pray for the release of those who have been kidnapped, a Swiss teacher, a French Red Cross worker and a Saudi diplomat. Ask that the plans of those who attempt to kidnap will fail.

Testimony

Thank God for a believing family who continue to grow in faith, even though their life is difficult. The husband shares with others and is unafraid. Ask that the wife will become a strong woman of God, teaching her children daily to follow the Savior. Ask that this family will find favor in their community. Ask that God will supply all their needs.

Weekly Update - May 2, 2012 - Bring Together

Written by Carleta

Praise

Praise the Lord for the locals who came to watch a Christian service that was moved out of its original place because of changes in the government permissions.  May God bring the gospel into areas where more locals can hear about Him.

Video

In every culture the children and youth are people starting to find new way of life. We want to be prayer for the Children and Youth in the Arabian Peninsula to have the opportunity to know the Lord Jesus.

Prayer

Pray for expat believers to have a vision and a passion to reach out to our local indigenous cousins. Believers need renewal, empowerment by the Spirit, and the heart of the Lord, for His love for the locals. We need God given opportunities and encounters and to actively step out in faith to find these.

Pray for the poor of the AP, especially those who live in a nation that is riddled with economic problems.  Ask that they will have food and that the distribution will be successful.

In past years, many young men accepted the Savior. Due to fear and lack of fellowship, they have lost their excitement and boldness. Some are no longer in contact with other Believers. Ask that the “burning desire” which they once had to study the Word and to pray will return. Ask that they will seek out other Believers and begin to meet with them.

Pray for workers and teams in this country. Pray for continued boldness to sow seeds in wisdom. Pray that workers will stay protected. Pray for personal revival in our lives and a renewed passion for the lost.

’Jamal' is a local believer who had some health challenges. He underwent some procedures and is grateful for the recovery that God has granted him.  Pray that he will rely on God for strength to change some of his life habits. Pray for his family members (still unbelievers) who witness how he trusts in God for healing.

Testimony

‘Mohammed', a believer from the majority faith, expressed his desire to bring together another local believer and two locals from a neighbouring country who are living here, with whom he has discussed the Bible.  He would like "Daniel", his Christian expatriate friend, to lead a study with them on the dependability of the Bible.  Pray that 'Mohammed' will follow through on this prompting, that the two locals will believe, and that all will be strengthened in their faith.

Weekly Update - April 25, 2012 - Interview

Written by Carleta

Praise

Praise the Lord for the impact of the internet on sharing the gospel.  There are reports of 100's of enquiries to Christian websites, and 1000's of Bibles being downloaded this year.

Prayer Video

The way God can use Technology is pretty amazing. People across the AP can get Bibles and talk with Christians on the Internet. Please view and pray over this important way of communicating the Good News through Technology.

Prayer

Pray for a great outpouring of the Spirit over this land, and a conviction of sin, a widespread dissatisfaction with works and ritual religion, and a hunger to know the Living God. Pray for God given questions to arise in the minds of our local friends, and a resulting desire to know more about Jesus.

The Bible instructs us to pray for the leaders of the nations. Pray for the kings, princes and presidents of the AP countries. Pray that they will have wisdom and make decisions that will help their people.

The parliament has approved tougher penalties for blasphemy, which includes slander against Mohammed and his wives.  The penalty according to Sharia law is execution. Please pray that fear of this ruling will not stand as a wall to the gospel.

A number of kidnapped people in Yemen are yet to be released.  Pray particularly for a Swiss teacher who is still missing; it is over a month since she was taken.

Al Bahethoon (“The Seekers”) is a recent short movie, viewable on line, which shows the pilgrimage of some Gulf Arabs coming to Christ. It accurately reflects varied aspects of this culture.  Pray that God would use it to reach into the hearts of local Muslims, who would otherwise not hear the gospel of Christ.

Testimony

A Saudi princess was interviewed by BBC about what she wanted to see changed in her country.  She mentioned the following:  "I am not calling for a western system but an adaptation of that system to suit our needs and culture. Thus, our constitution should be inspired by the philosophy of the Koran with principles that are set in stone and not open to the whims of individual judges, as is the case now...  In particular, the constitution should protect every citizen's basic human rights regardless of their sex, status or sect. Everyone should be equal before the law."  Pray that indeed the constitution will change and human rights will be upheld for everyone.

Weekly Update - April 18, 2012 - Cry Out for Freedom

Written by Carleta

Praise

Praise the Lord for 10 years of PTAP.  Please pray that as leaders meet in the next few weeks, plans to move forward with this ministry will be effective as we all pray to see the Kingdom of Jesus Christ come to the Arabian Peninsula.

Prayer Video

This week we ask that you watch this video and focus your prayers on the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh.

Prayer

Believers in the AP sometimes face isolation, fear and loneliness. Thank the Father for those who continue to grow in spite of these struggles. Ask that others in their family or among their friends will come to Faith and build community with them.

Pray for teams of Kingdom-minded foreigners and native believers to be established in 27 regional cities & towns including: Riyadh, Buraidah, Onaizah, Hufuf, Dammam, Khobar, Jubail, Qatif, Hafar-al- Batin, Rafhah, Arar, Skaka, Dawma- al- Janda, Tabuk, Dumah, Tayma, Al-Ulah, Hail, Yanbu, Medinah, Mecca, Jeddah, Baha, Abha, Khamis-Mushayt, Jizan and Najran.

There are many refugees who have fled their homes in the south eastern part of the country. Some have also fled from the far north. Ask that they will receive the food and supplies that are being sent to them. Ask that they will hear about the Savior, who loves them.

Talking about beliefs is very common in parts of the AP. In fact it is more culturally accepted than it is in most of the West. As people ask more questions about faith and the religions of others around them, ask that their hearts will be open to the truth. Ask that those who believe in Jesus will have strategic and thought provoking conversations with their neighbors and friends. Ask that many will believe in what the Savior has done for us.

The government, influenced by Islamic fundamentalists, is shutting down several house churches that are spread throughout our country. Pray that the believers here will be a radiant light to all, drawing Muslims to Christ, and turn the tide against ignorant or Satan-inspired prejudice.

Testimony

Exodus 6:9 - And Moses said these words to the children of Israel, but they gave no attention to him, because of the grief of their spirit and the cruel weight of their work.

Many people in this country are so heavy pressed by social pressure that they fear to speak their opinion and have no hope for relief. I can see parallels with the children of Israel bound in slavery. The Israelites heard the good news of God's answer to their prayers to come and relieve them, but after the first hope was crushed, they no longer wanted to listen.  Pray for those in this country who cry out for freedom from Satan's bondage, that they will not give up even if resistance comes against them.
